Armor of God

Ephesians 6: 10-18

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.11 Put on the full armor of God,so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powersof this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God,so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Why do we need the Armor of God?

Its important to put on the armor of God via prayer so we can benefit from the full measure of God's good protection, especially when exploring topics that expose the evil deeds of darkness.

Elements of the Armor

The Belt of Truth

Truth is the belt that holds the believers’ armor together. Ultimate Truth can be found in God’s Word. We must know this Truth well in order to protect ourselves against our flesh, the world and deceptive lies. Truth is our compass and gives us discernment.

The Breastplate of Righteousness

Our breastplate is Christ's righteousness. His righteousness is unfailing. We must, by His power, chose to Live right, We must remain rooted in God's Word. The breastplate protects our heart and keeps us on the narrow path.

The Shoes of Peace

Believers have a firm foundation in the Gospel. As believers, we have peace in knowing we are secure in what Jesus has done for us. We place our feet firmly on this ground. The ground of God's gift of peace

The Shield of Faith

Faith is the shield of the believer. Trusting in God’s power and protection is imperative in remaining steadfast. When the battle rages, we must remember that God works all things for good. He is always true to His promises. While painful and unjust events rage on this earth and against us, we rest in the knowledge that God is good and that that He always has us in His hands when we place our faith in Him.

The Helmet of Salvation

The believer’s helmet of salvation is the most crucial piece of armor for the Christian. Without the indwelling Holy Spirit that enters a believer at the moment of salvation, all other armor is useless. Salvation empowers believers to fight. It protects us in our weaknesses. Without salvation, there is no victory.

The Sword of the Spirit

Our sword is the Word of God, both the written and the incarnate Word. Every other piece of armor protects us against attacks. With God’s Word, we are truly able to fight and defeat all enemies. Christ used Scripture to defeat Satan when He was tempted in the desert. We must do the same.
